Ceiling Fan Installation in Langhorne, PA
Langhorne, PA - Adding a ceiling fan and light to a room without existing hardware can completely transform its functionality and aesthetics. Recently, we had the pleasure of enhancing a room with this stylish upgrade, providing better lighting, improved airflow, and a modern touch. In this post, we’ll walk you through the steps we took to complete this project, from wiring and mounting to achieving a flawless finish.
Preparation
The fan was strategically placed in the middle of the room for optimal functionality and aesthetic balance. A central joist was chosen to provide sturdy support for the fan’s weight. To protect the client’s home, tarps were laid out before the project began. The homeowners selected the Home Decorators Collection 52 inch Ashby Park ceiling fan from The Home Depot, item number 1004-065-046. This is a ceiling fan that features a brushed nickel finish, a remote control, and an adjustable temperature LED.
Routing the Wiring
The room already had a wall switch, which served as the starting point for the electrical connection. Broadly speaking, the wire needed to run up the wall, across the ceiling, and down into the ceiling fan. Depending on the layout of the home, two small holes might need to be created (one on the wall and one on the ceiling) in order to make the 90 degree turn. Fortunately in this case, there was an attic right above the bedroom. In the attic, we were able to locate the area adjacent to the light switch and drill a hole. From there, wire was secured to fish tape, and the two were pulled behind the drywall, out of the switch box. This attic space was utilized later in the project to easily drop the wire into the fan mount hole.
Adding the Fan Mount and Assembly
Since there was no previous ceiling hardware in the room, a new ceiling mounting box was needed. The Arlington FB442 Ceiling Fan and Fixture Mount was selected, given the mounting location and weight requirements. In order to create the hole for the mount, a hole saw can sometimes be used in conjunction with a dust collection tray. In this project, it would have been really challenging to drill directly into the joist. This would not only add time to the project, but it would also run the risk of breaking a drill bit adding to the cost of the project. Instead, the ceiling mount was traced and the outline was cut out using a utility knife and drywall saw. Not only did this allow us to leave the joist intact, but it also significantly minimized the amount of drywall dust.
Once the mount was in place, the motor of the ceiling fan was wired up and installed. This included the receiver necessary to operate the unit with a remote control. At the end of the project, all of the tarps were collected and the area was cleaned up for a spotless finish.
The Final Result
The completed ceiling fan installation is more than just a functional upgrade—it’s a stylish improvement that enhances the room’s comfort, lighting, and airflow. By adding a ceiling fan/light combo to a space without pre-existing hardware, we transformed the room into a more inviting and versatile environment.
